The Arts and Me
In Jr high and high school I did choir all six years, and theatre two years. Zumba to me could be considered an art because it does involve dancing, and I took that for about three years in college. Zumba and choir were, and still are, very important in my life. They help me to release negative emotions and express happy emotions in a healthy way. I think it is extremely important to integrate the arts into the curriculum because it’s a different way to teach and it can be very beneficial for the students outside of class as well as throughout their lives. I am a little nervous that I’m going to suck at integrating, and that is one of my biggest fears.
Final Reflection
My views have changed in a sense that it isn’t as difficult as I thought it was going to be to integrate the arts. Teaching with the arts, especially music and drama, was very helpful in field for teaching the students particular material. We did a song to introduce the Revolutionary War and I as amazed at how quick they caught on and what they remembered. I now recognize the importance of integrating the arts because the impact it has on students knowledge and remembering is bigger than many teachers realize. My hope is that I will be able to integrate all different aspects of the arts throughout each school year; I want to be able to integrate these art aspects multiple times throughout the year. With this I know that my students will be excited to learn and will be able to hopefully retain information better.
